If solubility product of $HgSO _{4}$ is $6.4 \times 10^{-5}$, then its solubility is :
BHUBHU 2004
Solution:
First find the relationship between solubility and solubility product of $HgSO _{4}$, then substitute the values and calculate to find the value of solubility of $HgSO _{4}$.
Let the solubility of $HgSO _{4}$ be $s\,\, mol / L$
$HgSO _{4} \rightleftharpoons Hg ^{2+}+ SO _{4}^{2-} $
$K_{ sp } =\left[ Hg ^{2+1}\left[ SO _{4}^{2-}\right]\right.$
$=s \times s $
$=s^{2}$
or $s =\sqrt{K_{s p}} $
$=\sqrt{6.4 \times 10^{-5}} $
$=8 \times 10^{-3} \,mol / L$
