Q.
If $117 \,g \,NaCl$ is dissolved in $1000 \,g$ of water the concentration of the solution is said to be:
Jharkhand CECEJharkhand CECE 2005
Solution:
Molality $=\frac{\text { moles of solute }}{\text { massof solvent in } kg }$
$=\frac{\text { mass of solute/molecular weight }}{\text { mass of solvent in } kg }$
Given mass of solute $=117 \,g$
molecular mass of $NaCl =58.5$
mass of solvent $=1000 \,g =1 \,kg$
molality $=\frac{117 / 58.5}{1}=2$
