Q. How many moles of iodine are liberated when $1$ mole of potassium dichromate reacts with potassium iodide?

AFMCAFMC 2010The d-and f-Block Elements

Solution:

The balanced chemical reaction is
$14 H ^{+}+ Cr _{2} O _{7}^{2-}+6 I ^{-} \longrightarrow 2 Cr ^{3+}+3 I _{2}+7 H _{2} O$
Thus, $3$ mole $I _{2}$ is evolved, when $KI$ reacts with $1$ mole of potassium dichromate.
