Q. How many grams of $NaOH$ should be added to water to prepare $250\, ml$ solution of $2\, M\, NaOH$ ?

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Moles of $NaOH =\frac{ M \times V ( mL )}{1000}$
$=\frac{2 \times 250}{1000}=0.5$ moles of $NaOH$
Moles $=\frac{\text { given mass }}{\text { mol. mass }}$
$\therefore 0.5$ mole $=\frac{x}{40}$
given mass $=40 \times 0.5=20\, g$
