Q. How many grams of CH3OH should be added to water to prepare 150 mL solution of 2 M CH3OH?

AIPMTAIPMT 1994

Solution:

Given: $150 ml$ of $2.0 M CH _{3} OH$ is to be prepared.

Number of moles $= M \times V$ olume $\operatorname{in L}= 2 . 0 \times 0 . 1 5 0 = 0 . 3$

Molar mass of $C H _{3} OH = 3 2 . 0 4 g / m o l$

$\therefore $ Weight of $CH _{3} OH$ to be added $= 3 2 . 0 4 \times 0 . 3 = 9 . 6 1 g$
