Q.
$ {{H}_{2}}O $ is dipolar, whereas $ Be{{F}_{2}} $ is not. It is because
ManipalManipal 2007Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
Solution:
The structure of $H _{2} O$ is angular or $V$-shape and has $s p^{3}$-hybridisation and $104.5^{\circ}$ bond angle. Thus, its dipole moment is positive or more than zero.
But in $BeF _{2}$, structure is linear due to $s p$ hybridisation $(\mu=0)$
Thus, due to $\mu>0, H _{2} O$ is dipolar and due to $\mu=0$, $BeF _{2}$ is non-polar.
