Gabriel's synthesis : Phthalimide is reacted with $\text{KOH}$ to form potassium phthalimide. The potassium salt is treated with an alkyl halide. The product N-alkyl phthalimide is put to hydrolyse with hydrochloric acid, then primary amine is formed.
