Q. For a chemical reaction A$\to$B, it is found that the rate of reaction doubles when the concentration of A is increased four times. The order in A for this reaction is

Chemical Kinetics

Solution:

Let Rate $= k[A]^n$
$r_1 = k a^n$
$r_2 = k(4a)^n\,but \,r_2/r_1=2$
$=n=1/2$
= Order of reaction = 1/2
