Q. $FeCl _{3}$ on reaction with $K _{4}\left[ Fe ( CN )_{6}\right.$ ]in aqueous solution gives blue colour. These are separated by a semi-permeable membrane $AB$ as shown. Due to osmosis, there isChemistry Question Image

Solutions

Solution:

Osmotic pressure $= iCRT$
For $FeCl _{3}$ solution, $i =4$,
therefore $i \times C =4 \times(0.1)$ and for $K _{4}\left[ Fe ( CN )_{6}\right] i =5$,
and $i \times C =5 \times$ $(0.01) \times M$
Since, $i \times C$ is more for $FeCl _{3}$ solution and we know that in osmosis,
flow of solvent takes place from dilute to a concentrated solution.
So, the blue colour formation will not take place.
