Q. Consider the vernier callipers shown below. The instrument has no zero error. If $1 \, m.s.d=1 \, mm$ and $7 \, m.s.d \, = \, 8 \, v.s.d$ , then what is the length (in $mm$ ) of the rod shown in the figure? [Given; the $4^{th} \, v.s.d$ coincides with $m.s.d$ ]

Question

Solution:

$7m.s.d=8v.s.d$
$\Rightarrow 1v.s.d=\frac{7}{8}m.s.d$
$\Rightarrow \, L.C=\left(1 - \frac{7}{8}\right)mm=\frac{1}{8}mm$
Were $M.S.R=4mm$
$V.S.R=4$
value $=\left(4+(4)\left(\frac{1}{8}\right)\right) mm$
$=4.5 \, mm$
