Q. Consider the nuclear reaction $X ^{200} \rightarrow A ^{110}+ B ^{90}$ If the binding energy per nucleon for $X , A$ and $B$ is $7.4 \,MeV , 8.2\, MeV$ and $8.2\, MeV$ respectively, then the amount of the energy released is

Nuclei

Solution:

Initial $BE =7.4 \times 200\, MeV$
Final $BE =8.2 \times 110+8.2 \times 90 \,MeV$
$\therefore $ Energy release $=$ Final $-$ Initial
$=(8.2-7.4) \times 200=0.8 \times 200$
$=160\, MeV$
