Q. Consider the following carbocations :
I. $Cl_3 \overset{+}C$
II. $Cl_{2} \overset{+} {C}H$
III. $Cl \overset{+} {C}H_{2}$
IV. $ \overset{+} {C}H_{3}$
The stability sequence follows the order

Solution:

Electron withdrawing groups like $—NO_2$, $— X$ etc., decrease the stability of carbonium ion. So, the stability order is
$Cl_3C^+ < Cl_2$$\overset{+}{C}H < Cl \overset{+}{C}H_2 < \overset{+}{C}H_3$
