Q. Consider a cube of body-centered cubic unit cell of edge length a. Now atom at the body centre can be viewed to be lying on the corner of another cube $2$ . Find the volume common to cube $1$ and cube $2$ .

Solution:

Volume of cube $=a^{3}$ , body centred atom can share to $8$ such cubes. Hence volume common to cube 1 and 2 is one-eighth of its volume.
