Q. Calculate the deposited mass of silver which is plotted against charge in electrolysis of silver nitrate.

Question

Slope of the line gives:

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020Electrochemistry

Solution:

According to Faraday's $1^{\text{st }}$ law of electrolysis.

$\text{W} \, \propto \text{Q}$

$\text{W}= \, \text{Z}.\text{Q}$

$\because \text{Z} \, = \, \frac{\text{E}}{\text{F}}$

then

$\text{W}=\frac{Q E}{\text{F}} \, $ or $\frac{\text{E}}{\text{F}}. \, \text{Q}$

Compare with straight line equation

$\text{Y} \, = \, \text{mx} \, + \text{c}$ [ $\text{m} \, =$ slope of line]

$\because \text{c}=0,$ passing through origin

Slope of the line $ \, \left(\text{m}\right) \, = \, \frac{\text{E}}{\text{F}} \, = \, Z$ (Electrochemical equivalent of silver)

Slope $=\frac{E}{F}$
