Q. Calcium carbonate decomposes on heating to give calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. How much volume of $CO_2$ will be obtained by thermal decomposition of $50\, g$ of $CaCO_3$?

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$\underset{\text{100$\,$g}}{CaCO_3} \to CaO + \underset{\text{1 mole = 22.4 L}}{CO_2}$
$ 100\, g$ of $CaCO_3$ at $STP$ gives $22.4\, L$ of $CO_ 2$
$50 \,g$ of $CaCO_{3}$ will produce $\frac{22.4}{100}\times50 $
$= 11.2\, L$ of $CO_{2}$
