Q. Based on lattice energy and other considerations, which one of the following alkali metal chlorides is expected to have the highest melting point?

AIIMSAIIMS 2011

Solution:

As we go down in the group, ionic character increases hence, melting point of halides should increase but $NaCl$ has the highest melting point $\left(800^{\circ} C \right)$ due to its high lattice energy.
