Q. At what temperature volume of an ideal gas at $ 0{}^\circ C $ becomes triple?

Rajasthan PMTRajasthan PMT 2006Kinetic Theory

Solution:

We know that for ideal gas $\frac{V_{1}}{T_{1}}=\frac{V_{2}}{T_{2}}$.
(at constant pressure)
$\Rightarrow T_{2} =\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}} \times T_{1}=\frac{3 V}{V} \times 273 $
$=3 \times 273 \,K $
$\Rightarrow T_{2} =819 \,K =819-273 $
$=546^{\circ} C$
