Q. At STP $1.12$ litre of $H_2$ is obtained on flowing a current for $965$ seconds in a solution. The valueof current is

Electrochemistry

Solution:

$2H^+ + \underset{\text{2 mole 2F 2} \times 96500 C}{2e^-}\rightarrow \underset{\text{1 mole 22.4 lt}}{H_2O}$
To libarate $22.5\, lt$ of $H_2$ gas, electricity required
$= 2 \times 96500\,C$
To liberate $ 1.12\,lt $ of $H_2$ gas, electricity required
$ = \frac{2\times 96500 \times1.12}{22.4} = 9650\,C$
$Q = 1 t$
$ 1 = \frac{Q}{t} $
$ = \frac{9650\,C}{965 \,\sec}$
$ = 10$ ampere
