Q. At a certain temperature, equilibrium constant $\left(K_{c}\right)$ is $16$ for the reaction.
$SO _{2}(g)+ NO _{2}(g) \rightleftharpoons SO _{3}(g)+ NO (g)$
If we take one mole each of all the four gases in a one litre container, what would be the equilibrium concentrations of $NO$ and $NO _{2}$ ?

Solution:

image
$QC =1< K_{c}$
i.e. reaction proceed in forward direction to attain equilibrium.
$16=\left(\frac{x}{1-x}\right)^{2} $
$\Rightarrow x=0.80 $
$[N O]=0.80 M,$
$\left[N O_{2}\right]=0.20 M$
