Q. Assertion (A) The number $0.00764$ has three significant figures.
Reason (R) If the number is less than $1$, the zeros on the right of the decimal point but to the left of the first non-zero digit are not significant.

AP EAMCETAP EAMCET 2019

Solution:

If the number is less than one, the zero on the right of decimal point but to the left of the first non-zero digit are not significant, i.e. in $\underline{0} . \underline{00} 764$, the underlined zeroes are not significant. The number of significant digit is 3 .
Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are correct and reason (R) is the correct explanation of assertion (A).
