Q. Assertion (A) A genetic probe is helpful in the detection of specific DNA sequence.
Reason (R) Genetic probe is a radiolabelled C-DNA, which has complementary base sequence, to DNA fragment which is to be detected.

AIIMSAIIMS 2016

Solution:

Probes are small nucleotide sequences used to detect the presence of complementary sequences in nucleic acid. By permitting the probes to base pair with the sample nucleic acid and then identifying the samples that show base pairing with probes, we can detect required nucleotide sequence. These probes can be labelled either with radioactive substances (like $P ^{32}, C ^{14}$ ) or with non-radioactive substances (like biotin, digoxigenin).
