Q. Assertion (A): $8\, g$ of methane occupies $11.207\, L$ of volume at $273\, K$ and $1 \,atm$. pressure.
Reason (R): One mole of any gas at STP occupies $22.414$ litres of volume:
The correct answer is

EAMCETEAMCET 2004

Solution:

One mole of $CH _{4}$ gas is equal to $16\, g$ of $CH _{4}$
So, at STP $\because \,1$ mole or $16\, g$ of $CH _{4}$
occupies volume $=22.414 L $
$\therefore \,8 \,g$ of $CH _{4}$ occupies volume
$=\frac{22.414 \times 8}{16}=11.207\, L$
Reason: At STP one mole of a gas occupies $22.414 L$ of volume.
