Q. An organic compound $\left(\right.A\left.\right)$ contains $20\%C,46.66\%N$ and $6.66\%H$ . It gave $NH_{3}$ gas on heating with $NaOH$ . The organic compound $\left(\right.A\left.\right)$ could be:

Solution:

$C=\frac{20}{12}=1.66=1$
$N=\frac{46.66}{14}=3.33=2$
$H=\frac{6.66}{1}=6.66=4$
$O=\frac{ 26.68}{16}=1.66=1$
Empirical formula of compound $CN_{2}H_{4}O$
Since, this organic compound contains carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen and on heating with alkali liberates $NH_{3}$ the organic compound must be urea.
$NH_{2}CONH_{2}+2NaOH \rightarrow 2NH_{3}+Na_{2}CO_{3}$
