Q. An A.C voltage $E=200 \sin 300$ t is applied across a series combination of $R =10 \Omega$ and $L =800 mH$. Calculate the power factor of the circuit.

Alternating Current

Solution:

$X_{L}=\omega L=300 \times 800 \times 10^{-3}=240 \Omega$
$Z=\sqrt{R^{2}+X_{L}^{2}}=\sqrt{(10)^{2}+(240)^{2}}=240.2 \Omega$
Power factor, $\cos \phi=\frac{R}{Z}=\frac{10}{240.2}=0.0416$
