Q. Alkaline dilute $ KMnO_{4} $ solution is called

Solution:

(i) Etard reagent : The chromyl chloride $\left( CrO _{2} Cl _{2}\right)$ dissolved in $CCl _{4}$ is known as Etard reagent. It is used to convert toluene into benzaldehyde.
(ii) Benedict reagent : It is an alkaline solution of cupric ions complexed with citrate ions.
It is used for the detection of sugars in urine because sugar contain aldehydic group.
(iii) Mullikan's reagent $10 \% CaCl _{2}$ solution and $Zn$ dust is known as Mullikan's reagent. It is used in the detection of $- NO _{2}$ group.
(iv) Baeyer's reagent $1 \%$ alkaline $KMnO _{4}$ solution is called Baeyer's reagent. It is used for the test of unsaturation.
