Q. $Ag$ is electro deposited on a metallic vessel of surface area $800\,cm^{2}$ by passing a current of $0.2$ amp for three hours. The thickness of silver deposited is $x\times 10^{- 4 }cm$ (given density is $10.47\,g/cc$ ). The value of $x$ is

Solution:

Surface area $=800\,cm^{2}$
$I=0.2\,amp$ for $t=3\,hr=3\times 3600\,sec$
Let $t$ is the thickness of $Ag$ deposited, then it will happen on the one side of plate
Volume $=A.t.=800\times t\,cm^{3}=800\,t\,cm^{3}$
$d_{Ag}=10.47\,g/cc$
$m_{Ag}=d_{Ag}.V_{Ag}=800t\times 10.47=8376\,t$
$m _{ Ag }=Z_{ Ag } . I . t =\frac{\frac{108}{1}}{96500} \times 3 \times 3600 \times 0.2$
$8376t=\frac{108 \times 108}{965}\times \frac{2}{10}=12.087\times \frac{2}{10}$
$t=\frac{12 . 087}{8376}\times \frac{2}{10}$
Thickness of $Ag$ deposited in the vessel $=2.88\times 10^{- 4}cm$
Final answer $=2.88\times 100=288$
