Q. According to Darwinian fitness, populations evolve to maximise their reproductive fitness. Now find out the incorrect pair from the following options regarding this.

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

The population evolves to maximise their reproductive fitness in the habitat in which they live. This fitness towards maximising reproductiveness is called Darwinian fitness (high r-value). Darwinian fitness refers to the capacity of the variant type to invade and displace the resident population in competition for available resources and thus is a measure of survivability and reproductive capacity of an organism. An organism that breeds just once has high r-value as compared to an organism that is a continuous breeder and produces lesser number of progeny.
