Least count of vernier calipers
$LC =1\, MSD -1\, VSD$
$=\frac{\text { Smallest division on main scale }}{\text { Number of divisions on vernier scale }}$
$20$ divisions of vernier scale $=16$ divisions of main scale
$\therefore 1 \,VSD =\frac{16}{20} \,mm =0.8 \,mm $
$\therefore LC =1 \,MSD -1 \,VSD $
$=1 \,mm -0.8 \,mm =0.2\, mm$
