Q. A precipitate of $AgCl$ is formed when equal volumes of the following are mixed. $[K_S\, for\, AgCl = 10^{-10}]$

KCETKCET 2005

Solution:

A precipitate of $AgCl$ is formed when equal volumes of $10^{-5} M Ag NO _{3}$ and $10^{-5} M HCl$ are mixed, because ionic product will be $10^{-9}$ which is greater than $K_{s p}\left(10^{-10}\right) .$ For the precipitation of an electrolyte, it is necessary that the ionic product must exceed its solubility product.
