Q. A positive point charge is placed at $P$ in front of an earthed metal sheet $S$ . $Q$ and $R$ are two points between $P$ and $S$ as shown in the figure. If the electric field strength at $Q$ and $R$ are respectively $\text{E}_{\text{Q}}$ , $\text{E}_{\text{R}}$ and potential at $Q$ and $R$ are respectively $\text{V}_{\text{Q}}$ , $\text{V}_{\text{R}}$ . Then

Solution:

Solution
As we are are moving away from $P$ toward sheet $S$ spacing between electric lines of force is increasing. $ \, \therefore E_{R} < E_{Q}$ In direction of electric field potential decreases. $\therefore V_{R} \, < \, V_{Q}$
