Q. A passenger is walking on an escalator at a speed of 6 km / hrelative to the escalator. The escalator is moving at 3 km / h relative to ground and has a total length of 120 $m$. The time taken by him to reach the end of the escalator is

Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

Velocity of the passenger with respect to ground
$v_{P G}=v_{P E}+v_{E G}=6+3=9 km / h$
Time taken, $t=\frac{x}{v_{P G}}$
$=\frac{120 m }{9 \times \frac{5}{18} m / s }$
$=\frac{240}{5} s =48 s$
