Q. A mixture of hydrogen and oxygen has volume $2000\, cm ^{3}$, temperature $300\, K$, pressure $100\, kPa$ and mass $0.76\, g$ The ratio of number of moles of hydrogen to number of moles of oxygen in the mixture will be :

Solution:

$PV = nRT$
$n=\frac{100 \times 10^{3} \times 2000 \times 10^{-6}}{\frac{25}{3} \times 300}$
$n=80 \times 10^{-3}$
$n_{1}+n_{2}=0.08$
$n_{1} \times 2+n_{2} \times 32=0.76$
$\left(0.08-n_{2}\right) 2+n_{2}(32)=0.76$
$n_{2}=0.02$
$n_{1}=0.06$
$\frac{n_{1}}{n_{2}}=\frac{3}{1}$
