Q. A lead bullet hits a steel plate with a velocity $400 m / s$. If the impact is perfectly inclastic and heat produced is equally shared between the bullet and the target then the rise in temperature of bullet is (specific heat capacity of lead $=125 J kg ^{-1} K ^{-1}$ )

Thermal Properties of Matter

Solution:

If produced heat equally shared then half of it shared between the two
$ms \Delta T =\frac{1}{2}\left(\frac{1}{2} mv ^{2}\right)$
$\Delta T =\frac{ v ^{2}}{ s \times 4}=\frac{400 \times 400}{125 \times 4}$
$=320^{\circ} C$
