Q. A cooking gas contains carbon and hydrogen only. A volume of $11.2 L$ of this gas is found to weigh $22 g$ at STP. Then the molecular formula of the gas is

KEAMKEAM 2021

Solution:

Volume of $11.2 \,L$ of gas $\rightarrow 22 \,g$ at $S T P$
Volume of $22.4 \,L$ of gas $\rightarrow 44 \,g$
$\therefore$ The mass of $C _3 H _8$ is $44 \,g$.
Hence, cooking gas contains propane $\left(C_3 H_8\right)$
