Q. A compound $(X)$ has the molecular formula $C _{7} H _{7} NO$. On treatment with $Br _{2}$ and $KOH ,( X )$ gives an amine $( Y ) ;( Y )$ gives carbylamine test. (Y) upon diazotisation and coupling with phenol gives an azo dye $(Z) .(X)$ is:

Amines

Solution:

Reaction of $( X )$ with $Br _{2}+ KOH$ suggests that $( X )$ is an amide. Carbylamine test and coupling reaction of $(Y)$ suggest that $(Y)$ is $1^{\circ}$ aromatic amine.
