Q. A car of mass $1000 \,kg$ is moving with a velocity of $15\,m/s$ and it is acted upon by a forward force of $500\, N$ due to engine and retarding force of $120 \,N$ due to friction. What will be its velocity after 10 seconds.?

Laws of Motion

Solution:

$m =1000 kg $ Forward force $=500 N$
Backward force $=120 N $
$\therefore $ Net force (accelerating) $=500-120$
$=380 N$
As, $F = ma$
$\frac{380}{1000}= a$
$a =0.38 m / s ^{2}$
Now $ v=u+a t$
$v=15+0.38 \times 10=18.8 m / s ^{2}$
