Q. A capacitor is connected to $10 V$ battery. The charge on plates is $40 \mu C$. If medium between plates is air. The charge on plates will become $100 \mu C$ if the space between the plates is filled with oil. The dielectric constant of oil is:

Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

Solution:

After filling the space with oil
$C'=\epsilon_{r} C$ and $Q'=Q \epsilon_{r}$
$\epsilon_{r}=\frac{Q'}{Q}=\frac{100}{40}=2.5$
