Q. A body falls freely for $10\,sec$. Its average velocity during this journey (take $g = 10 \, ms^{-2}$)

KCETKCET 2016Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

Key Idea Average velocity $=\frac{\text { Total Displacement }}{\text { Time interval }}$
In $10 \,s$, the distance covered by the body
Here,
$s=\frac{1}{2} g t^{2}$
$t=10 \,s$
$g =10\, ms ^{-2}$
$\therefore s =\frac{1}{2}(10) \times(10)^{2}=500 \,m$
$v_{ av }=\frac{500}{10}=50\, ms ^{-1}$
