Q. A block of mass m is placed in equilibrium on a moving plank. The maximum horizontal acceleration of the plank for $\mu=0.2$ is:

Laws of Motion

Solution:

If block does not slide w.r.t platform
$F=ma \,...(i)$
but $f \le\,\mu N\,... (ii)$
From (i) and (ii), $ma \,\le\,\mu\,mg$
$a \, \le\,\mu \,g$
Hence maximum acceleration of the plank is
$0.2 \times 10=2\,m/s^{2}$
