Q. A block of mass $2.5\,kg$ is heated to temperature of $500^\circ C$ and placed on a large ice block. What is the maximum amount of ice (in $g$ ) that can melt (approximate to nearest integer). Specific heat for the body $=0.1\,Cal/gm^\circ C.$

Solution:

Let the amount of ice that melts is $m$ .
Then
$mL=ms\Delta \theta $
$m\times 80=2500\times 0.1\times 500\Rightarrow m=1562.5\,g\Rightarrow m\approx1.5\,kg$
