Q. A bag contains coins in the denominations $₹ 1$, $₹ 2$, and $₹5 $ in the ratio $3: 4: 5$, respectively. If the total value of the coins in the bag is $₹ 180$, calculate the number of coins in each denomination.

Ratio, Proportion, and Variation

Solution:

Let the number of coins of denominations of $₹ 1, ₹ 2$, and $₹ 5$ be $3 x, 4 x$, and $5 x$. The total value of the coins in the bag $=₹[3 x+4 x(2)+5 x(5)]=₹(3 x+8 x+25 x)$ $=₹ 36 x$.
The total amount in the bag $=₹ 180$
$\Rightarrow 36 x=180 $
$\Rightarrow x=5 .$
The number of $₹ 1$ coins in the bag $=3 x=15$.
$\therefore$ The number of $₹ 2$ coins in the bag $=4 x$ $=20$
The number of 25 coins in the bag $=5 x=25$.
