Q. A 110 watt, 110 volt lamp is connected in series with an electrolytic cell containing $CdSO_{4}$ . What mass of cadmium will be deposited by the current flowing for 10 hour? (Atomic mass of Cd = 112.4)

Solution:

P = VI

$I=\frac{P}{V}=\frac{110}{110}=1$

Equivalent mass of Cd $=\frac{A t o m i c \, m a s s}{V a l e n c y}$

$=\frac{112.4}{2}=56.2$

$W=\frac{I t E}{96500}=\frac{1 \times \left(\right. 10 \times 60 \times 60 \left.\right) \times 56.2}{96500}$

$= \, 20.96 \, g.$
