Q. $5 \,L$ of $NaOH$ solution of pH $12$ contains

COMEDKCOMEDK 2009Equilibrium

Solution:

pH of solution $= 12$
Hence, $pOH = 14 -12 = 2$
${\Rightarrow [OH^-] = 10^{-2} mol/L}$
$1\, L$ contains $10^{-2}$ moles of $OH^{-}$ ions.
Hence, $5 \,L$ will contain $5 \times 10^{-2}$ moles of $OH^-$ ions.
Now, no. of moles = $ \frac{w}{mol .mass}$
$ w = 5 \times 10^{-2} \times 40 = 2 \,g$
