Q. $10 \,g$ of hydrogen is reacted with $50 \,g$ of oxygen. Calculate the amount of unreacted reagent.

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$\underset{(4\,g)}{2H_2} + \underset{(32\,g)}{O_2} \to 2H_2O$
$ 10\,g$ of hydragen requires $\frac{32 \times 10 }{4}$
$ = 80\,g $ of $O_2$
So oxygen is limiting reagent here.
$\therefore 50 \,g $ oxygen reacts with $= 4 \times 50/32$
$= 6.25 \,g$ of hydrogen
Unreacted hydrogen $= 10 - 6.25 = 3.75\, g$
