Q. $1$ mole of gas occupies a volume of $200 \,mL$ at $100 \,mm$ pressure. What is the volume occupied by two moles of gas at $400 \,mm$ pressure and at same temperature?

AIIMSAIIMS 2012

Solution:

Given, $p_{1}=100 \,mm , V_{1}=200 \,mL $
$p_{2}=400\, mm$
From Boyle's law
$p_{1} V_{1} =p_{2} V_{2} $
$V_{2} =\frac{P_{1} V_{1}}{P_{2}} $
$=\frac{100 \times 200}{400}$
$V_2 = 50\,mL$
Volume of $2$ mole gas $ = 2\times 50$
$ = 100\,mL$
