Q. $0.75\, g$ platinic chloride, a monoacid base on ignition gave $0.245 \,g$ platinum. The molecular weight of the base is

UP CPMTUP CPMT 2010

Solution:

$\frac{Wt. \,of B_{2} H_{2}ptCl_{6}}{2B+410}=\frac{Wt. \,of pt}{195}$
$\therefore \, \frac{0.75}{2B+410}=\frac{0.245}{195}$
$\Rightarrow B=93.5$
Eq. wt. of base $= 93.5$ ; since it is monoacidic
$\therefore $ Mol. wt. of base $=93.5\times1=93.5$
