Eugene Dubois in 1891, discovered a fossil in central Java (Island of Indonesia) from Pleistocene rocks. Eugene Dubois named it as Pithecanthropus erectus. Pithecanthropus means 'ape man''. Mayer in 1950 assigned it as Homo erectus. He was the primary prehistoric man to form the use of fireside for hunting, defence and cooking.
Homo habilis was discovered by L. S. B. Leakey and his wife in 1960. Australopithecus was discovered by Raymond Dart in 1924.
