In zone of cell differentiation or naturation the cells are differentiated into permanent tissue depending upon the function they have to perform. It lies adjacent to the meristematic region. This zone bears root hairs and thus most of the water and minerals absorption occur through this region. Zone of cell elongation lies behind the growing point. Cells of this region lose power of division. The cells elongate due to vacuolation, ie, formation of vacuoles. Zone of Cell FormationThis region of cell division lies protected below the root cap. It comprises of closely arranged, small, thin walled and isodiameteric cells which have dense protoplasm. Terminal portion of rootThe tip of the root is called calyptra or root cap.
