Oxygen dissociation curve
When percentage saturation of haemoglobin with O2 is plotted against the pO2 , a sigmoid curve is obtained which is termed as Oxygen dissociation curve. Utility: This curve is highly useful in studying the effects of various factors (like pCO2 , H+ concentration, etc.) on the binding of O2 with haemoglobin. Factors that are favourable in the tissues for the dissociation of oxyhaemoglobin shifting the curve towards the right: Low pO2 , high pCO2 , greater H+ concentration and higher temperature.
