Q. Which of the following statements about the glomerular filtration is CORRECT?
I. The hydrostatic pressure of blood in glomerular capillaries allows filtration.
II. The diameter of the efferent arteriole is lesser than the diameter of the afferent arteriole.
III. The fluid collected in the urinary space contains all constituents of blood except RBCs.
IV. The net filtration pressure at the glomerulus is around 40 mm Hg.

Solution:

Glomerular filtration is the renal process in which the fluid in the blood is filtered into the Bowman's capsule across the glomerulus capillaries. This filtration occurs due to the force of the difference between hydrostatic and osmotic pressure. Afferent and efferent arterioles transport blood in and out of the glomerulus. The afferent arteriole which brings in the blood is large in diameter which helps in increased blood pressure in the glomerulus. Hence, statements I & II are correct.
